Things went horribly wrong. It was a real fiasco. We tried to check here {compensate|mitigate the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a spoon. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the blow of this disaster.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total disaster. We've tried anything to fix it, but nothing seems to work. At this point, it feels like we're hopelessly stuck. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a mess of epic proportions.
That's So Cringe, It's Hilarious (In a Way)
Sometimes you encounter situations so awful that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer magnitude of unadulterated absurdity and just resigns itself to fate, opting for amusement as a coping defense.
But then, you realize that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you felt morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of utter perplexity. You question about the meaning of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

Worst Day Ever
It all started with the case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't figure it to look presentable. As I was getting ready out the door, I trippedon and landed all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was extremely behind schedule for work.
I with no time to spare. My {boss|teacher|was absolutely furious. I tried to explain, but it was no use.
The rest of the day was just as bad. Everything. I get anything done.
By the time I got home, I was completely drained. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
